Here are the Final Four School Teams!

Congratulations to all the readers who read for their teams. The NKEF appreciates your participation and support throughout the Reading Challenge.

Here is the Current SCOREBOARD as of 3/22/24 9PM.  

The Final Four Teams will now read for the next 5 days with a brand-new scoreboard to see which team gets awarded which Literacy grant. Top Readers and Top Collectors Individual MVR prizes are cumulative over the entire challenge so just keep reading and helping the NKEF reach their $5000 goal – every minute and dollar counts!

Congratulations to all the readers who participated in our annual Reading Madness Challenge this year!  You all read for a combined total of over 100,000 minutes and helped the NKEF raise a little over $6,000. We cannot thank you enough for your support and your love of reading.  We would also like to thank all of the NKSD faculty/staff and administration, students and family members who supported our annual town-wide reading challenge. Your dedication and hard work helped make this fundraiser a huge success!  

We also want to thank all the volunteers from the NK Police Department and the players and coaches from the NKHS Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball teams who played in our first annual Charity Basketball game on April 1st. Without them it would not have been possible!

The NKEF will be collecting gently used books to “FILL A BOX” at the game. Please consider bringing some books to share with our Library boxes around town.  

 CHARITY BASKETBALL GAME 

This Saturday April 1st at the NKHS Main Gym.

Game time is at 4:30pm

Doors open at 4pm 

Come check out the NK Police play basketball against our very own NKSD team which features Varsity players from the NKHS Boys and Girls Basketball Teams!!!

Join us for our CHARITY BASKETBALL GAME Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 4:30pm. 

The NK Police Dept Team will be playing players from the NKHS Varsity Boys & Girls Basketball teams, as well as a few faculty & staff. The concession stand will be open and there will be cheerleaders and fun, games and music.   The Literacy grants and Top Readers/Donors prizes will be given out at half time!!! It will be a slam dunk of a good time!  You won’t want to miss it!  We are also collecting books for our library boxes so bring your gently used, good condition books to donate.  

Congratulations to the top 2 teams, Forest Park and Hamilton Elementary School. Your teams will begin reading for the Championship Game NOW!!! Reading and logging minutes will end March 27th at 9 pm and the winner will be announced on April 1st at our Charity Basketball Game! Good luck and keep reading!

As of March 22, 2023 @ 9pm the NKEF Reading Challenge readers have read for 96,310 minutes and raised $5297 for the North Kingstown Educational Foundation.  CONGRATULATIONS!!!

The Top 4 schools have been ranked & placed in the Final Four Bracket to compete over the weekend!!!

Teams can not add any new readers to compete in the Final Four. 

Your rosters are set and final.  New registered reader’s minutes will not be counted.

FINAL FOUR CONTEST 

The Final Four contest begins now with a new scoreboard starting at zero, tracking points (earned with minutes read and donations collected) for the next 2 days (March 23 & 24 until 9pm).  

CHAMPIONSHIP CONTEST 

The top 2 teams (announced 3/25 by 10am) will then compete over the weekend (March 25 & 26 & 27 until 9pm) for the Championship.  Continue to check our website link for updates. There will be a new cleared scoreboard for the Championship game and teams will track new minutes and donations for the Championship.   The Championship School Team will be announced March 28th by 12pm. 

Every 30 minutes & every $25 donated = 1 point 

***  Please be sure to be honest when logging your minutes and if you have not already, please consider collecting a donation to help your team win!

Remember : All readers are still eligible for all their prize incentives so keep reading. The Top 4 teams will earn a literacy grant (amount differs depending on the bracket). Please be sure to have a school team representative available to attend our Charity Basketball game on Saturday April 1st at 4:30pm to receive the grant at half time. This is a picture worthy moment and we can’t wait!!

Saturday April 1, 2023 @ 4:30pm  Charity Basketball Gametime.   

All the students who are registered readers in our annual Reading Challenge have earned a free ticket to this game.  Top school teams will receive their literacy grant awards at the game, as well as all participants’ prize pick up.  

We are still looking for volunteers to play on the NKSD Faculty/Staff team coached by Lane Leedahl, as well as, volunteers to show some spirit with the NKHS Cheerleading squad and  individuals who are willing to help support the event (prize distribution, concession stand and more).  They would love to see someone from their school playing on the team!! Let’s give them a game and a fun event to watch!!  They earned it with their reading!!  Basketball experience and practice time is optional!!!  All volunteers receive a Tshirt.

Thanks for Catching the Reading Wave with the NKEF!

The Madness has begun!!!!  Check out these school teams!!!   The readers are reading until next Wednesday to earn points for their school to make the Final Four Bracket.  The top four schools will then compete and read in the Championship tournament bracket to see which school can read the most minutes and collect donations for points.  

Every 30 minutes logged and every $25 donated earns their school team  – 1 point on the scoreboard.  Total readers per school team, as of today include:

DMS – 17
FC – 47FP – 36

HAM – 20

NKHS – 3

QUID – 6STONY – 30

WMS – 4

Registration has been extended until 8pm this Friday night.  Any reader of any age – student, family member, parent, grandparent, friend can register for any school team!  Join in and help your school of choice make the Final Four to compete for a literacy grant up to $1000.   

Registration is easy and can be accessed by your computer or phone:

  • Go to http://pledgestar.com/NKEF or download “PledgeStar” app on your phone and use the event code “NKEF”
  • Click “Not Registered For This Year’s Event”
  • Enter your name and email address, then click “Submit”
  • Follow the instructions on-screen to register Reader(s), choose your school of choice (Home team) and add family and friends for pledge request
