The North Kingstown Educational Foundation is pleased to announce the availability of (1) $1000 scholarship to qualified educators in the North Kingstown School Department.
This scholarship was created in memory of a beloved and blessed educator, Lane Leedahl who passed away in 2024 after a 3 year journey with cancer. He was a champion of the North Kingstown Educational Foundation and an inspiring educator in the North Kingstown School Department. Lane had a spirit that filled a room whether he was teaching students and/or supporting his school community. This scholarship represents his core values and demonstrates his passion for teaching.
Lane believed that every child could succeed, no matter what challenges they faced. He dedicated himself fully to helping them reach their potential. Lane believed good teaching was fun, engaging and messy. He believed learning was more than books and essays, it was hands on and interesting. He would spend his days making jokes and laughing, all the while he was always focused on his students and their well-being. He created a classroom environment where everyone’s strengths were supported, celebrated, and recognized. Lane taught his students the importance of experiences, of hard work, of learning from your mistakes and having a wicked good time while doing it. Having Mr. Leedhal as a teacher was akin to having a coach who was always in your corner. His teacher philosophy also carried over to the adults he worked with. He always made the adults he worked with feel the same way. He welcomed new teachers and always invited them in and got to know them on day one. His spirit lives on in the countless students that he taught and his colleagues he worked with and with this scholarship.
